WHAT is the
NYSWC annual summit?
The annual
NYSWC summit is an opportunity for youth spoken word organizations from
throughout the country to come together to share strategies, organize
resources and mobilize the youth spoken word movement on a national scale.
The summit takes place immediately after the annual Brave New Voices Teen
Poetry Slam Festival. The summit seeks to build the knowledge and collective
action of the myriad organizations using spoken word to engage teens in
arts, literacy and social justice. Read more about on-going work of the

Voices Festival

Groups
in attendance must be official members of the NYSWC (see website for
information about joining the coalition)

There is
space for up to 3 members from each group to be housed at Stanford
University. We encourage the attendance of organization leaders,
including youth leadership representatives. If you would like to bring
more than 3 people, you will need to secure separate housing, food and
local transportation.

Scholarship Options
Youth
Speaks-Madison hopes to provide scholarships for groups who demonstrate
evidence of financial need. This funding is only available to grass roots
groups whose do not have other funding sources. To apply for a scholarship,
you must contact Willie Ney at 608.890.1055.
