Mapping Youth Spoken Word
Over the last eleven years,
youth spoken word programs have taken shape across the United States,
providing a platform for young artists, activists, and educators. Youth from
across the nation write and perform some the world’s most important work.
Powerful, painful, honest, and funny, these young folks have the world on
the tips of their tongues. Their work inspires countless others to also pick
up the pen and take hold of the microphone, and the National Youth Spoken
Word Coalition is committed to the idea that we can and must build
organizations to sustain this movement for the long term.
The purpose of the Mapping Project is to get a clear picture of just where
the different programs and organizations are, what they need, and how we can
all better work together to make sure we’re sustaining a movement that will
be around for generations. There needs to always be places where young
people can process their lives, and speak on them creatively and actively to
audiences that are listening.
Through the Mapping Project, we can create a dynamic educational tool, and a
funding resource. By
participating you are helping to put your program on the map, and make sure
it stays there.
